Fort Miles Battery

On the opposite side of the Delaware Bay, Fort Miles in Delaware stood as a sentinel against the threat of German naval forces. Its batteries, equipped with massive coastal defense guns, were part of a broader network designed to protect the shipping lanes leading to the industrial heart of the United States. Fort Miles played a critical role in the coastal defense strategy, working in conjunction with other fortifications, including those at Cape May, to create a defensive perimeter.
