World War II Lookout Tower
The World War II lookout tower at Cape May, built in 1942, was part of a series of observation posts constructed along the East Coast. These towers were manned by soldiers who scanned the horizon for enemy ships and submarines. The Cape May tower, now preserved as a historic site, offered a panoramic view of the ocean and was equipped with powerful optics and communication equipment. It provided vital intelligence that helped coordinate the efforts of the coastal artillery units and the naval patrols.
